Digital Realty's global footprint grew again recently. We are pleased to continue the expansion of our presence in Asia with the opening of Digital Osaka 1 in Osaka, Japan. The facility measures over 90,000 square feet and provides 7.6 MW of power. It is our first data centre in Japan, one of the world's most sought-after markets for data centres due to its "strict data sovereignty laws and high customer demand."
Osaka has long been a centre of international business and commerce. It has played a large role in the growth of Japan's industrial economy, and continues to do so, hosting businesses in a wide variety of industries that are active leaders on the global stage. The area also features many universities and specialist organizations carrying out high level research and technological development.
Because the space in Osaka 1 was fully leased upon its launch at the end of May, we've already begun to execute plans for expansion of the property. We are currently in the early stages of exploring building out the adjacent lot into what we expect will become a much larger 27 MW facility.
